Complete Wiring Solutions for the Porsche 356 – From Pre-A to 356SC

We manufacture accurate, model-specific wiring looms for all Porsche 356 variants—from the earliest Pre-A through to the final 356SC models built in 1965. Our in-house reference archive includes original harnesses for nearly all model years and configurations, including both LHD and RHD vehicles.

The Pre-A and early 356A harnesses typically feature woven cloth overbraid insulation, with the earliest builds using fully cloth-insulated wiring. Each main chassis loom is constructed as a full-length front-to-rear assembly, covering the entire electrical system. The 12-position fuse box is supplied fully pre-connected, using ceramic fuses as per factory specification.

For 356B and 356C models, the wiring is modular, consisting of separate front-end harnesses, engine/dynamo looms, and dedicated sub-looms for lighting, instrumentation, and accessories. All harnesses are produced to support the original 6-volt architecture, which—due to the higher current requirements—uses larger conductor cross-sections than 12-volt equivalents. This ensures full compatibility with both 6V and 12V conversions without risk of underspecification.

In standard form, B and C harnesses are often pre-configured with additional circuits for optional components such as electric fuel pumps or twin-plug ignition systems found in Carrera derivatives. These circuits are left unconnected unless explicitly required, maintaining originality while offering plug-and-play extensibility.

Due to continuous year-over-year changes, Porsche never standardized the 356 wiring completely. Variations exist not only across model years but often within the same year of production. These subtleties—ranging from wire color codes and connector types to routing differences—make the development of a “universal” harness impractical and undesirable.

For this reason, we highly recommend sending us your original harness, regardless of condition. Even damaged, incomplete, or modified looms provide critical information that enables us to reproduce a wiring set that is functionally and visually indistinguishable from the factory original—right down to conductor gauge, sheathing type, and connector configuration.
